    ALaska trip

Sunday, April 20, 2008, 08:50 PM CST [General]

I am going on a cruise along the inside passage, I never have been there and would like some advice on where to take pictures. I won't have much time in each town and I want to use my time efficiently. I will be in Seward, Anchorage, Juneau, Skaway and Ketchikan. I have many interests, so any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have rented a car for when I am in Anchorage and intend to go to Portage and an animal sanctuary. And am thinking on going to the aquarium when we get to Seward.

Hi Bob, I see you posted on April 20. If you haven't yet taken your cruise, the opportunity for taking photographs is endless. I have been through the inside passage 4 times and each time I can't seem to let go of my camera. It is my constant companion! The scenery through the passage, the wildlife, and the glaciers will have you snapping many photos.
I have not been to Anchorage yet. My husband and I plan on a trip further north and plan to hit Anchorage. After you get back, maybe you can give us some tips for that region.
The best tip I can give you ......keep that camera handy. You will see some of the most awesome scenery in the world!

Have been to all the places you've listed. My suggestion is to simply look around at each spot. There will be bald eagles, almost numerous as English sparrows! There is usually an info place close to your ship's dock. They can point you in the right direction for the time you have allowed.

    Bring compact binoculars.

Next time you want to travel by ship/boat to Alaska try the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry from Bellingham, Washington. I have been several times and just love the informality, the staff, the people traveling with you, the rangers who inform you, and the views -- as good and better than the larger ships.

The aquarium in Seward is a must.

    Have fun.
