About Me: I grew up in MN. I relocated to Alaska in 2000; arrived in Juneau and moved into a triplex on Douglas Island. It was the best decision I'd ever made in my life. Health issues brought me back to the lower 48. My father recently passed away on Boxing Day and he has joined my mother who crossed over 10 years ago. I suspect they'll get that Alaskan cruise and trip to Italy out of the way now that there's no travel restrictions with health or family involved. My siblings and I were really never close so it's likely that each family will go their separate ways now. I hold a BA in studio art with a Minor in English communication. I am adopted Lakota; an herbalist and used to be a media consultant for a local television station in Juneau. A viral infection in my left ventrical has left me disabled. I moderate several herbal forums; Admin at http://www.psifly.com/cr2/ and have continued to make good use of my aging HP215 Digital Camera. My camera will probably out live my computer. Other news- we are expecting the first grand daughter from my married daughter in June.

    It's been interesting

The last month has flown by.  My married pregnant daughter was taken off of work and has been on rest since the middle of March.

Since driving has been near impossible for her I've been chauffering her to appointments and spending quality time watching my granddaughter grow through weekly ultrasound exams. (Boy, have they improved since my kids were small. It's totally amazing the detail that one can see on screen during one.)

I just wated to let the community know what was going on and keep you posted as timely as possible.

    It's bitterly cold in Minnesota

Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 11:00 AM CST [General]

This is the first gloriously sunny day we've had in the Twin Cities in weeks, but with the clearing over night, temperatures dipped down into the double digits lows across the state with over-lapping windchill warning's and watching from Northern Minnesota down through parts of Iowa and well into areas of Wisconsin. Here's a current map here:

I don't remember it ever being this cold in Juneau. Fie It's -19 and the air is so sharp and dry, you'd expect sparks flying off your apparrel when you walk.

I was planning on taking a few photos today, but my rechargeable batteries don't do well in this weather.

    Enjoy your day!

    Hi Jenal,
I'm glad you liked the aerial photos. It is a whole different perspective up there and a great way to get a feel for Alaska's incredible scale and beauty.
As far as your bear photo, it's hard to say without seeing it but looking at the light in a photo usually decides weather or not to take it. If the bear is in deep shade it may be very hard to bring any contrast to him. Some photos, like that, are worth taking not as art but to remember what an awesome thing you witnessed!

Hi Jenal, I'm glad you like the Bohemian Waxwing photos. Thanks. I couldn't find your glacier calving photo. I saw one of the Mendenhal Glacier, very cool, and I really liked the perseverance trail photo. Looks like a blue eye out in the woods. - Wayde
