I'm looking for advice on making the drive from Seattle to Anchorage. Anyone ever made the drive? Any advise you can offer would be helpful. Thanks.

Check out The Milepost. It is a great resource with Mile-by-mile highway logs. |

We live in Washington state and have driven to Alaska. It is a wonderful drive and have a camera or digital camera handy. You will need birth cerficates or the Washington state licenses for going to another country. We drove the Cassiar Highway going up and it took us 5 days to get to Anchorage. We drove the Alcan Highway coming back and that is a bit quicker. We had no problem with finding gas stations, it is higher paying for it in Canada and they usually convert it at the bank when paying for it. It took getting used to driving in kilometers than regular speed limit signs. Be prepared for wild animals running in front of you and be prepared for mosquitos too. What a wonderful trip you all will have. One of my favorite places was, Jade City going up the Cassiar if you go that way. The food at fast food places are different, wasn't used to Kentucky Fried food, not the same to me, that was in Whitehorse. We saw a lot of wild life, keep an eye out in lakes for moose in the shallow water, an awesome sight. We also ran into some construction along both highways. I hope you all have a wonderful trip. I drove the ALCAN in a Honda Civic. I beat all the traffic (motorhomes) because I left the first part of May. Pick up a MilePost and take your time, you will never forget it. |

I left a comment, but it didn't print my e-mail (??), so here goes, again. bboldenow@yahoo.com |

Hi, We have driven from Seattle to ANC/FAI and other points north many times. We lived in AK for 2 years prior to retiring and moving outside. Best advice I can give is allow plenty of time and don't expect freeways, it is good road for remote country and if you are careful and take your time you will have no problems.
