The Fair is a neat place to expose you photos and win a ribbon or two.  All fairs are probably alike, so unless you are completely inept, you will get a ribbon or two along with everyone else. They usually have some special catagories that glean the big rosette ribbons. Below are my entries, note the very odd one. I wanted to win the "Most Unusual Image" ribbon with my Hammerhead Shark eye.

The Fair is also a neat place to take pictures, lots of interesting subjects.
