Capturing Alaska

Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge
run by Alaska Wildland Adventures
I recently returned from leading a photo safari to several areas of Alaska for Alaska Wildland Adventures. I had a great group of people that loved learning about and experimenting with photography. This year we had a new location to explore: Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge. I can honestly say this was one of the most amazing places I've been!
The land is owned by a native corporation and is surrounded by the Kenai Fjords National Park. The corporation asked AWA to build a lodge there and it is a gem.
The Pedersen Glacier sits right in front and feeds two lagoons, an upper and lower. The lodge sits on the lower lagoon where black bears frequently roam the shores. Sometimes they get so close that knowledge of how to behave in bear territory is essential. A paddle in either lagoon reveals otters, eagles, harbor seals, and a wide variety of bird life. At high tide you can paddle in to the upper lagoon and you'll find yourself among large icebergs! It's a wonderful sound when you hear the steady dripping of the melting ice as you drift silently by.
A short hike behind the lodge through moss covered forest brings you to more mountains, tall grasses, and a wonderful beach area where we experimented with long exposures in the surf.
We were blessed with incredible sunny days. From sunrise to sunset we photographed to our hearts content. Not much sleeping here!

Really love the first photo. Looks like the kayak photos are perfect stock images. Well done Wayde.
